G4S unveils armored truck E-mail

Kenya's security and risk management solutions provider, G4S Security Services (K) Limited, is testing a new prototype cash vehicle.

The prototype is a result of high level consultations in March 2010 between G4S and the Ministry of Internal Security.

The bullet-resistant truck with real-time tracking and other security features was flown in last week from Thailand where it had been built.

"This prototype is the product of G4S best practice taken out of lessons from the 70 countries in the world where G4S operates Cash in Transit (CIT) businesses," said Adam Miller, the G4S Regional Managing Director for East Africa.

He was speaking during the unveiling of the prototype vehicle to the Administration Police (AP) Commandant, Mr Kinuthia Mbugua at the G4S head office on Witu Road, Nairobi.

Mr. Miller said the vehicle, constructed with employee safety and technology control in mind, would significantly reduce the chances of Cash in Transit robberies in future.

"While we cannot eliminate entirely the chances of robbery and attacks, but we can extensively reduce the opportunity for loss with this vehicle that is the future of the CIT industry," explained Miller.

Although not expected to completely reduce the chances of the loss of cash-in-transit, the move is expected to significantly reduce the probability of armed robberies on the company's vehicles.
