M-PESA money transfer service is now in UK and Kenyans can now send money by mobile phones to friends and relatives back at home. Kenyans in UK have waited for a long time for these mobile to mobile money service after it become very popular in Kenya. M-PESA is owned by Safaricom and Kentv Ltd is one of the companies managing the money transfer service in UK. Kentv Ltd the parent company of www.kentv.net. Kentv has agents in Barking, Slough, Southall, Bristol and Scotland. More are needed all over UK.
The service has many advantages over old money transfer methods and is bound to attract many people. When money is sent to a mobile in Kenya the owner can pay bills or do shopping without withdrawing any of the cash. This is because many retailers and businesses are accepting M-PESA as a normal cashless means of payment. Money can also be withdrawn from the mobile in small portions as and when needed at ATM`s or the thousands of agents all over Kenya. Safaricom`s agents are found in virtually all villages, rural shops, markets and shopping centres. This means receivers of money do not have to travel long distances to town centres as with other money transfer services or line up for long hours at banks.
Billions of shillings have been sent through the service in Kenya. Millions of Kenyans who have no bank accounts have been able to make transactions that were previously impossible. The service is also now operational in Tanzania but it is not yet linked to UK.
