Three-time London Marathon champion, Martin Lel capped his return from injury with victory over Olympics gold medallist, Samuel Wanjiru at the inaugural Mardi Gras Half Marathon in New Orleans on Sunday. Lel stopped the timer at 1:01:07 to force Wanjiru to accept silver in 1:01:33. Half Marathon debutant Shadrack Biwott ensured Kenya made a podium sweep when he came home seven seconds adrift of Wanjiru (1:01:40) for third. ![]() The battle between Wanjiru, the reigning World Marathon Major champion and half-marathon world record-holder and Beijing fifth finisher Lel, who has been plagued with injuries since winning his third London title in 2008, was the top bill in the first running of the event in Los Angeles. It did not disappoint since in a re-run of the 2008 London Marathon, Lel injected his famed killer kick at the last to humble the man who succeeded him a year later, setting up an exciting prospect with both runners lined-up for another clash in England in April. Biwott is a former University of Oregon runner. Meanwhile, Moses Masai upset Sammy Kitwara and Vivian Cheruiyot warmed up for World Indoor Championships in Doha by using all of her leg speed defend her title at the World’s Best 10km in Puerto Rico on Sunday. From the gun, all eyes were on Kitwara, the defending champion, but early on Moses Masai who missed selection in the national World Cross team had other plans for the field. At 2km, Masai moved to the front of a pack of 12, which was making its way across the Teodoro Moscoso Bridge. Masai broke the tape in 27:19, a personal best and a course record. "I told my manager that I wanted to try and win this race," the winner said. "I tried to push it and push it until no one was coming, and then I pushed it harder." |

I define comfort as self-acceptance. When we finally learn that self-care begins and ends with ourselves, we no longer demand sustenance and happiness from others.
Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.
Learn to get in touch with the silence within yourself and know that everything in this life has a purpose.
What is the use of a house if you haven't got a tolerable planet to put it on?
There are two types of people--those who come into a room and say, 'Well, here I am!' and those who come in and say, 'Ah, there you are.'
For one human being to love another; that is perhaps the most difficult of all our tasks, the ultimate, the last test and proof, the work for which all other work is but preparation.
I was gratified to be able to answer promptly. I said I don't know.
The meeting of two personalities is like the contact of two chemical substances: if there is any reaction, both are transformed.
The power of accurate observation is commonly called cynicism by those who have not got it.
By the time I'd grown up, I naturally supposed that I'd be grown up.
History teaches us that men and nations behave wisely once they have exhausted all other alternatives.
The people I distrust most are those who want to improve our lives but have only one course of action.
Tragedy is when I cut my finger. Comedy is when you walk into an open sewer and die.
